§ 1.01. Incorporation.

  • The inhabitants of the City of Quincy, within the corporate limits existing immediately prior to the effective date of this charter, to-wit:

    Begin at a point 523.15 feet west of the southeast corner of the northeast quarter of Section 17, Township 2 North, Range 3 West, the same being the point of intersection of the present southern city limit line of Quincy, Florida, at its easternmost point with the centerline of State Road 10 or U.S. 90; thence run north 463.75 feet; thence run north 49;deg; 01;min; west parallel with said State Road 10 or U.S. 90 to the eastern right-of-way line of the old Georgia, Florida & Alabama Railroad right-of-way as described in deed recorded in Deed Book "Q," page 570, Public Records of Gadsden County, Florida; thence northeasterly along said eastern right-of-way line of the old Georgia, Florida & Alabama Railroad to its point of intersection with the south bank of Quincy Creek; thence north 46;deg; 30;min; west 50 feet to a point on the westerly boundary of said railroad right-of-way; thence from said point run northwesterly along the said south bank of Quincy Creek to a point north 79;deg; 07;min; west 712.4 feet therefrom; thence south 43;deg; 30;min; west 616 feet; thence south 46;deg; 30;min; east 450 feet; thence southwesterly parallel to and 150 feet northwesterly from the western right-of-way line of the old Georgia, Florida & Alabama Railroad right-of-way, aforesaid, to a point 350 feet north 40;deg; 59;min; east from the centerline of State Road 10 or U.S. 90; thence north 49;deg; 01;min; west parallel with said State Road 10 or U.S. 90 to the quarter section line on the east side of the west half of the west half of Section 8, Township 2 North, Range 3 West, at a point 463.75 feet north of the centerline of said State Road 10 or U.S. 90; thence run north along the quarter section line on the east side of the west half of the west half of Section 8, Township 2 North, Range 3 West to a point 283 feet south of the centerline of State Road 12, commonly known as the Quincy-Havana Highway; thence run easterly parallel with the centerline of said State Road 12 to the west boundary line of the tract of land described in deed recorded in Official Record No. 47, page 223 of the public records of Gadsden County, Florida; thence run north 45;deg; west to the south right-of-way line of said State Road 12; thence run north 89;deg; 56;min; east along said south right-of-way line 602 feet; thence north 2,769.61 feet; thence west 1,798.41 feet; thence north 57;deg; 35;min; west 577.4 feet; thence north 87;deg; 35;min; west 1,057.8 feet; thence south 46;deg; 09;min; east 2,758 feet; thence south 43;deg; 51;min; west 50 feet; thence south 46;deg; 09;min; east to a point 283 feet north of the centerline of State Road 12; thence run westerly, parallel to the centerline of said State Road 12 to the west bank of Quincy Creek; thence run westerly along the west bank of Quincy Creek to a point where it intersects the west boundary of the northeast quarter of the southwest quarter of Section 2, Township 2 North, Range 4 West; thence run south 10,499 feet to the southwest corner of southeast quarter of northwest quarter of Section 14, Township 2 North, Range 4 West; thence run east along the half-section lines of Section 14, Section 13, of Township 2 North, Range 4 West, and of Section 18 and Section 17 of Township 2 North, Range 3 West, for a total of 19,011 feet to the point of intersection with the centerline of State Road No. 10 (U.S. 90) to the point of beginning;

    or as hereafter established in the manner provided by law, shall continue to be a municipal body politic and corporate in perpetuity under the name of the "City of Quincy."

Editor's note

The above legal description does not appear in charter section 1.01. It is a revision prepared by the city attorney that reflects annexations by the city. The last sentence of section 1.01 has been deleted. It was either repealed by the Municipal Home Rule Powers Act (F.S. ch. 166) or converted into an ordinance by such act which has not been readopted. The provisions of such sentence are adequately provided for by such act.
